Fair Haven Day

Join us for a parade and festival celebrating community, local art and artists, culture, sports, creativity, entrepreneurship, and partnership, presented by and for the Fair Haven neighborhood. Fair Haven Day begins with the Fair Haven Community Parade organized by the Mary Wade Home, followed by a full day of activities at the Arts & Ideas Fair Haven Neighborhood Festival.
Saturday, May 6, 12-6 pm. Fair Haven School. 164 Grand Avenue.

Latin American Policy Leader Series: Visit of Regional Director of UN Women for Latin America & Caribbean: “Diversity, Equality, and Gender”

The Yale MacMillan Center Council on Latin American and Iberian Studies, Fox International Fellowship Program, and Program on Peace and Development are delighted to announce the 2022 Latin American Policy Leader Series.
From January to May 2022, the Yale community will have the opportunity to hear from and discuss with high-level Latin American experts and policymakers about how we can work together towards a more equal and just world.

Latino and Iberian Film Festival at Yale

LIFFY strives to promote cultural awareness, mutual understanding, and unity among people of different backgrounds. It carries out this mission by showing films that share the stories and perspectives of people from the diverse countries, languages, and cultures of Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula.
All films presented at LIFFY are shown in their original languages with English subtitles. LIFFY screenings are presented free of charge and are open to all members of the Yale and greater New Haven community.

Barriles de Bomba

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15th-October 15th), we are focusing on a cornerstone of bomba, the drum. The Yale Latino Networking Group, New Haven Museum, and Peabody Museum are providing barriles de bomba kits and a video tutorial to the first 200 registrants.

Then bring along your drum to the live virtual performance of Bomba, with the traditional drums called barriles, with our friends at Movimiento Cultural Afro-Continental on Saturday, October 2.

PRFDHR Seminar: When does Migration Law Discriminate against Women?, Dr. Catherine Briddick

It is possible to identify gendered disadvantage at almost every point in a migrant woman’s journey, physical and legal, from country of origin to country of destination, from admission to naturalization. Rules which explicitly distribute migration opportunities differently on the grounds of sex/gender, such as prohibitions on certain women’s emigration, may produce such disadvantage. Women may also, however, be disadvantaged by facially gender-neutral rules.
