What is your current role at Yale University?

My role in the Department of Internal Medicine is Fellowship Coordinator for the section of Allergy and Immunology. I am also a Senior Administrative Assistant to the Rheumatology, Allergy, and Immunology faculty.

What are your main responsibilities?

My main responsibilities are being a liaison, scheduling, communicating, and record-keeping.

What do you like most about your work?

I enjoy being part of a diverse community that embraces education, research, and innovation.

How did you begin your career?

I began my professional career as an elementary school teacher. I taught for over 5 years and learned much about schedules, time management, diversity, and teamwork. I made a lateral move and became a part of Elementary School Operations for two years. After that, I joined Yale University, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to be here.

What steps would you recommend one take to prepare to enter this field?

Network, seek opportunities, be willing to learn, and be willing to teach. This field involves people from many different backgrounds, education levels, and professions. These steps will help you stay connected to yourself and to your goals and aspirations.

If you could do it again, would you choose the same path for yourself? If not, what would you change?

I would choose the same path forward. Even through adversity, I became a better person. I wouldn’t want to change my life experiences for the sake of having an easy way out.

What does YLNG mean to you, and how have you contributed as a member?

YLNG means to me a community, it means opportunities, it means belonging. I believe YLNG is a wonderfully diverse group that allows a safe place to grow, learn, and feel connected to people in our lives. I believe it means being a role model, to enter a space and time with people who also want to foster their growth. It’s a very powerful energy that I enjoy being a part of. My time at YLNG has only been a couple of years, but showing up to events and being a part of the 20th anniversary committee has been so cool. I look forward to more involvement in the future.
