Current Role at Yale University:

I am a Professor in the Department of Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry and the Head of Branford College.

Main Responsibilities:

I teach, run a research lab focused on both basic and applied science, and serve as the Chief Operating Officer of Branford College, overseeing operations, leading the community, and setting the tone for the college.

What I Like Most About My Work:

Definitely the people I work with.

How My Job Affects My Lifestyle:

It can be consuming, especially during the academic term, but it’s exciting because there’s always a goal to work toward.

How I Began My Career:

I started at Rutgers University in Newark, NJ, where I participated in the Minority Biomedical Research Support (MBRS) Program, which guided my career path.

Steps to Prepare for This Field:

Be honest with yourself—write down why you want to pursue this career and save it for the future, as you might lose sight of it once you dive in.

Essential Skills and Attributes for Success:

Patience, sincerity, and trustworthiness.

Would I Choose the Same Path Again?

Yes, but I would take more math!
