Currently, I am an Administrative Assistant at the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division, Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences. I started July 2017.

What are your main responsibilities?

My main responsibilities include scheduling appointments for patients with the prenatal genetic counselors as well as obtaining the necessary patient records for each appointment. Scheduling meetings, answering and screening incoming calls, managing the calendars for the Chief of Maternal fetal medicine and two other doctors, organizing department meetings and events. Additionally, I assist with various business process such as reimbursements, and budget tracking.

What do you like most about your work?

“Only a life lived in the service to other is worth living” - Albert Einstein. I really like helping others and my job allows me to that all day long!

How does your job affect your general lifestyle?

My job affects me on a personal and a career level.  Through my job, I can support my family and myself. Thanks to Yale’s personal and career development opportunities, I have acquired new soft and hard skills that will help me move up in my career track. I strongly believe that advancement comes from learning which opportunities to grab on to and explore, and Yale is a place that fosters both personal and professional development. I am very blessed to be here. <<<Grow where you are planted>>>

How did you begin your career?

I obtained my bachelor’s degree in International Business at Quinnipiac University in 2014. I worked at a marketing research company where I answered and screened incoming calls, addressed customer inquiries, identified problems related to research studies, and developed long-term solutions. I also assisted with different businesses processes.

What steps would you recommend one take to prepare to enter this field?

I would recommend obtaining a degree in business and finding ways to develop great computer skills; such as proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe.

What skills, abilities, and personal attributes are essential to success in your job/this field?

I would say that being personable, organized, and a team player are key personality attributes for this job. You also need to be able to shift from one task to the next, knowing how to prioritize, while also being attentive to detail.

If you could do it all over again, would you choose the same path for yourself? If not, what would you change?

I would not change anything about my path, because every experience has shaped the way I view the world and my purpose in it. I am looking forward to helping my department continue to grow and adding value to the University, while also taking advantage of every personal and professional opportunity. If we as individuals seek to grow and better ourselves every day, the university will grow as well.

What does YLNG mean to you and how have you contributed as a member of the Steering Committee?

Every time I attend a YLNG event I feel the sense of community and comradery. All the members are warm and welcoming. I also love to learn about the different Latino cultures and I get that exposure through YLNG.
