What is your current role at Yale University?

I am the Assistant Director of Student Life at the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH).

What are your main responsibilities?

I work closely with student organizations to support event planning, budgeting, and leadership development. I also assist with student-support–focused initiatives and recently had the privilege of leading the Yale vs. Harvard Tailgate.

What do you like most about your work?

My role is brand new to the school, which gives me the opportunity to be creative and bring a fresh perspective to YSPH—especially as we have recently transitioned into our own standalone school.

How did you begin your career?

My career began in New Haven, where I taught college-prep courses at a high school. Finding a career—not just a job—was a challenging process. However, once I discovered education, I knew it was where I was meant to be. About three years later, I found my way into higher education, which opened the door to even more opportunities.

What steps would you recommend to someone preparing to enter this field?

This field is deeply rooted in relationship-building, collaboration, and innovation. I’ve learned a great deal from the experiences of others, but I also bring my own perspective as a former undergraduate and graduate student—and now as a doctoral student. Reflecting on what I needed or wished I had as a student has helped shape how I approach my work today.

What does YLNG mean to you, and how have you contributed as a member?

When I first arrived on campus and learned about YLNG, it immediately felt like a source of comfort. As a first-generation student, I’ve always sought spaces where I could connect with my culture and find a sense of belonging, a home away from home. I found that through a Latino cultural center during my undergrad journey, and YLNG provides that same welcoming feeling on such a large campus. As a member, I’ve volunteered at several events and participated in networking sessions. In my new role, I hope to further strengthen our networking efforts, improve access to resources, and highlight to the broader Yale professional community that we are here and thriving.
