Tell me about your current role at Yale University?

I work for HR Employee Service Center where we service everything from payroll issues to tax forms.

What are your main responsibilities?

My main responsibilities are to guide employees on the different types of questions they may have. For example:

  • Help set up direct deposit
  • Help sign up for benefits
  • Log a life event like a marriage or add a child
  • Help with tuition and scholarship tuition
  • Help with flexible spending acct
  • Help people set-up Net Ids
  • Get PINs to reset a password
  • Tax form help
  • General questions
  • Guide people on how to apply for a job

What do you like most about your work?

The Interaction with the community.

How does your jog affect your general lifestyle?

It does not, if anything I think it makes me have more patience.

How did you begin your career?

I began first with YNHH (Yale New Haven Hospital) in 1996 as a BA (Business Associate) and from there I worked in Pre-Op Clinic. From there I came over to the University in 2000 and went on to be with Oncology for 13 years then YTSS for 1yr. I’ve worked at ESC for 3 years after YTSS.

What steps would you recommend one take to prepare to enter this field?

I would say you have to love to work with people from all different backgrounds.

What skills, abilities, and personal attributes are essential to success in your job/ this field?

I would say the skills you need are empathy, compassion and great customer service skills.

If you could do it all over again, would you choose the same path for yourself?

I would say yes because I love to deal with people and help in any way I can. If not, what would you change? I wouldn’t change anything.
